My Mission

Oki Ave Studying

Some years ago when my truck was stolen I learned that my bike could be used for more than just recreation. Bike riding became a form of therapy and a way to escape the rules of society that governed my day-to-day commute. As I experienced life at a slower pace, I began to notice that I had become stronger and more creative. I learned to turn limitations into advantages and in the process came to realize what I value most: community, innovation and self reliance.

Throughout the journey I will be examining each of these values with what I experience and bare witness to. My theory is that although we may each operate under different motives, we are actually bound by these same three constants.

This expedition will be the reversal and rediscovery of myself, the Alaskan-grown Colombian-born immigrant who has called America home for the past twenty-three years.

As a photographer I will be consciously working toward creating a body of work that encompasses these three values using photography, writing, and found objects. Upon my return I will begin the process of self publishing a book that documents the journey and the rediscovery of our collective existence.
